More All-About-Sam

I wouldn’t get a big dog if I knew I was to be living in an apartment. It seems selfish and unfair to the pup.
Samantha’s been through a lot in her short (less than two years) life~~or at least it seems that way from the view of her human! Living in three states spanning the country, moving from a big yard to a building with an elevator and the need to cross her legs till we get well beyond said elevator, the loss of a playmate/housemate, plus the fate of being stuck with me most of the time while the more fun human puts in a lot of hours doing her thing. Guilt hangs heavy.
Because of that, even though not required since I actually do understand she really doesn’t care about most of this stuff….she gets treated like a princess: visited more parks than I can count, car rides every few days in a city not built for cars, almost weekly walks to (and into) the neighborhood Petco and when possible walks and sometimes slow runs around a lot of different neighborhoods. This past weekend she made it all the way to and through much of the Capitol Hill neighborhood!

(Almost)Solo in Lincoln Park

She knew she was in for something special when we parked along the National Mall on a beautiful Sunday morning. With few people around we had a great parking spot and lots of space to head up the hill and make our way through the neighborhood.

We, of course, stopped for a few photo-shoots to show Amy, who was stuck at work, our progress through the morning. Off the normal path we found a few new parks, several century old brick sidewalks, the local weekend market and even ventured into an up-and-coming neighborhood that’s taken some hits for some recent crime/assaults.
With most of the city still sleeping, eating or heading to church we had most of the space to ourselves much of the time. I can’t think of a better way to spend a few hours on a Sunday morning and near the end of our trip Sammy agreed: she managed to jump into one of the many monument ponds. Ok, maybe I encouraged her! Either way we made quick work of it and scooted out of the water and clear of the area before the local Capitol Cops realized what we were doing.

Being cooped up in an apartment most of the time surely isn’t the life a big(ish), active, young pup would pick I’m sure. I only hope mixing things up for the gal keeps her engaged and worn out enough to make up for the country life.
