Crashpad

We lost a house-guest over the weekend. As far as house-guests go I’d be hard-pressed to find one better. First; he’s from the Midwest so he already starts a few notches above most! He’d stayed with us a couple times earlier in the spring when he first moved to town as an intern. I’d been warned from several people to prepare for the transient nature of the area and it really came to light after a few conversations with our guest. I’ve never been to a place with so many sub-sublets on apartments.
As a member of a younger generation we kept in touch only slightly; about as much as could be expected given the circumstances. I mean c’mon–a (paid) summer intern in DC?!?! Crashing in a cheap sub-sublet place with a couple others which means plenty of change to drop around town.
Unexpectedly several weeks ago he reached out looking for a place to land once his internship ended –which happened to coincide with the end of the trio’s apartment arrangement. A place was needed until a ‘real-job’ was found along with a place to live. We were looking at a rare several-weeks break between out of town guests; apparently folks started heeding weather notices and had no interest in spending time here in the swamp in the height of summer.

Landing a job took all of a couple of weeks; that was the easy part. Finding workable housing took a little longer; no surprise. Just in time for our visitors to start descending on town again our guest reached his second target.

It’d be nice to think we helped in some way; I know it was good for us to instill a little youthful energy into the air. Bonus for me is thanks to his new place of employment I now have a sweet new coffee mug~~one that’ll get a fair amount of use and zero time in the dishwasher.
