The Incredibly Shrinking Birthday Boy!

Spin class was winding down; I’ve managed to figure out a tolerable threshold for the bum knee; on the spin bike computer gears 0 >> 4 and RPMs up to around 85. I’ve been able to sustain that for the better part of a class a couple of times over he last couple of weeks. I hobble away when finished; but it’s somewhat of a decent sweat effort and burns some time.

The instructor turned down the music a touch and asked for Dan(I think it was Dan). Keep in mind the room is pretty dark so it took a moment to find him. She announced she’d embarrass him by letting the class know it was his birthday. That was quickly followed by her saying Dan had just lost his 190th pound. That’s right; he’s recently lost 190 pounds. Amazing. I’ve been taking spin for nearly 12 years in a dozen gyms over three states and I’ve never knowingly been in a class with someone who’s lost more weight than I am. Amazing. We sang happy birthday to him. Refreshing.

I was glad I made the decision to slog through class; I do hope I didn’t take a bike from someone who would have worked a little harder. I sweat out a pool; just didn’t happen to be my normal sized one. That was all a nice distraction.

Reconstruction of the ACL and meniscectomy scheduled for a couple weeks. Perhaps a bovine or canine ligament gets inserted—animal inside AniMal. Ironic.
Frustrating on many accounts. Depressing on some accounts. Hopeful on a few accounts.
