Easy it’s not been.  Two big dogs (one very sick, one very active) and all their belongings,  household items and clothes (to cover two) for two people, three bikes (shhh….Ames thinks only two are making the trip….a third makes it as far as BenG’s for permanent storage) and affiliated gear and one person to drive it roughly 2500 miles. Easy it’s not been so far but the fun has burned more than enough memories to more than outweighed the difficult points.
Leaving earlier than originally planned, yet later than a revised schedule resulted in a mixed bag. Fresh from a nap I was ready to hit the road, Unfortunately I was also foggy from oddly timed nap and left the house minus several items—-all replaceable but some were specifically meant to go. A couple calls to our new tenant should take care of the important things; the others are simply irritating.

Traveling with dogs, especially alone, presents several unique challenges. Entertainment for one. They tire of my talking and don’t seem to care for the same radio station. They’d rather roam than sit/lay down and of course they constantly feel they need to get out of the car for something—food, a drink, a walk, a tree. Fortunately the agenda and timeline are somewhat loose and frankly take a back seat to ensuring the pups are comfortable–which means they leave me alone so I can drive. We’ve taken several stops so far; my estimate is at least 2x as many as traveling canine-free. One of our first memorable stops was a little off the path where we found some pioneer type wagons and old-school fuel pumps. Lucky for me the shop had plenty of walk space–good for wearing out pups so I could look at the sights.
