(Saturday, April 2)
Just pulled in to Gladden Farms so Ames can du her first duathlon. This comes on the heels of a hard night out…..this’ll be fun. She says she’s not really nervous; it’s just a workout(according to her).
We’ve just gone through T1 and she’s hanging in there; bright 70+ degree sun and all! My role is to run interference for Walter as every single kid insists on petting him. He’ll be more wiped than Ames the rest of the day. He’s been a great cheerleader so far; helping her with transitions and with all the panting he’s a great reminder that it’s rapidly heating up!
Waiting for the finish and the o’ boy pretty much decided it was time to watch from the shade as the temps rapidly shot toward the mid-80’s. While this was supposed to be about the race…..when you bring a critter as unflappable as Walter it’s pretty easy to make it about him. He adored the attention and the parents were glad he was around for a distraction. Oh, and Ames made out pretty well also; a little over two hours spent churning through the two mile-15 mile-two mile event. All turned out great with the exception of a bit of sun overload. Simply cannot beat spring in the Southwest.
