Animals in the ‘hood

A better alternative to attempting to walk the dogs post a long day on the legs was taking them for a drive around the neighborhood. On the loop back from the trail-head a coyote was stopped in the middle of the road. He was smallish; less than 50 pounds. He carried a fair amount of confidence; letting us get withing a few yards before he scurried into the brush. Even the three dogs with their heads hanging out the window didn’t seem to phase him.
We turned the corner and a full-size German Shepard popped up out of the wash, zoned in on the pup that was being walked just a few feet in front of him.  Again, no response out of my three with their heads still out the window.  The Shepard kept an eye on the pup as a voice started out of the wash started calling for him…..a few seconds later two gals on horses appeared, climbing up to the street. We continued on home; just another afternoon at dusk around the block. After a rather long, hot, somewhat painful and disappointing run early in the day it was an uplifting distraction and a good segue to a much more enjoyable evening.
