2014 State of The Union (#SOTU per whitehouse.gov)

Another round of company has meant a little more fun this week. Sit home and watch the State of The Union on our laptop……go out and watch U. of IA basketball on big screens with three star bar food and lots of people…A-B, A-B. Yeah, after watching the U. of AZ game a couple nights ago at one local establishment it was hardly a choice. We’d catch #SOTU later somehow.

Lying in bed with my smartphone mere inches away from my rapidly deteriorating eyes my heart rate increased and I started feeling my neck hairs rise as the armchair pundits dissected the speech. Just days after former AK Governor Mike Huckabee again rather tastelessly introduced woman’s issues into a speech CNN contributor Alex Castellanos compared the President’s speech to sex. I popped out of bed and just walked across the room trying to process what I thought I heard. Minutes later after Washington State Representative McMorris-Rogers finished the (official) Republican response contributor Newt Gingrich provided his review of her response. Unbelievably he started by commenting that ‘she’s attractive and articulate…..’.

While I firmly believe there is no war-on-women by the Republican Party–they sure are hurting their chances at gaining ground when so many of their spokespersons unnecessarily make comments such as these. How are they ever going to break the self-inflicted negative image they’ve cultivated? I’m more inclined to believe they truly think they’re saying the right things—but are really clueless in how they play out. After nearly twenty minutes of scouring the video-sphere for a Fox related live feed and coming up empty I finally allowed myself to go to sleep, exhausted from frustration and disbelief. Unbelievable.  Go Hawks–Go ‘cats (tonight!).
