Rating Pain (Not the Loop Of)

The follow-up nurse finally tracked me down late afternoon after a couple earlier calls. Had my phone off part of the day and in another room the other part. She was friendly enough yet clearly had her own agenda. It began with a request that I give a rating to Pain, unfortunately not the Loop of Pain or I would have immediately tossed out Five Stars! I redirected the conversation to some other pieces of feedback I had staged; mostly positive.
That we could have used more clear directions on how to operate the brace, that the surgeon did not meet with us post-op when it was stated he would, that the (easy on the eyes) post-op nurse was less helpful than the more experienced pre-op nurse, that we were not told which location to show up for my first follow-up.  I’ll give them that one as it was probably identified in the pre-op booklet received three weeks ago.  My responsibility to hang on to that booklet I’m sure.  I did complement her on the entire pre-op experience. Given that I ran out a couple Jack Baur lines while in a recovery fog I probably didn’t make their top 10 list. I still maintain someone should have been more hands-on about how to operate the brace.
Once again, a reset to give thanks for all the positives I enjoy.  That said; after a sleepless night which included a couple mid-sleep nudges to Ames to help with getting out of bed during the night I’ve now been awake since 4:30(a.m.). Purposely avoiding naps to improve the odds of sleeping through the night. All in all a pretty great day. Brother Tom came over for a while bearing coffee, treats, books and the usual assortment of great stories. That’s a good life.
Now nearly 16 hours after waking up I’d call it a solid, if not great, day.  A few rounds of baby-step exercises, getting out of chairs unassisted a few times, sticking to a minimalist Rx schedule, knocking back a couple great salads, filling up my Netflix instant queue, catching up on the news and making some photo and music progress. By most standards I’d suspect an enviable day; minus the trick question about Pain.
Oh, and not a good day for a game a snow-ball.
