Just Vote

It was ’91 and I was living with a couple other guys in a huge, yet dank, apartment. We had a large group of friends with whom we ran
around and I was outclassed by most of them.  Worked out for me; as a result I scaled up my wardrobe and gals I dated. Most of all it broadened my political views which had become blunted living in the bubble of a small, liberal arts school campus.
I remember the players, just not their specific politics. Jeff, Ty, FatEric, Frazee, Andy, David and of course Jenn, Amy, Sheila, Barbie and Tami. I can picture the teacher and journalist but their names escape me. Quite a crew. Some were civically active which spilled into the group and one would have had to be sleeping to not pick up something socially, fiscally or environmentally meaningful. Debate parties, candidate -themed Halloween parties, candidate sightings at local events. Pretty heavy for a bunch of 24-26 year olds.
It finally landed with my vote for the Texan, Ross Perot. As I recall he simply seemed to be the most genuine and figures—both likely important at the time to someone recently out of school and used to being lectured to in just such a manner. Winners and losers, old, young, right-leaning, left leaning I’ve picked them all. A Bush, Gore, Nadar, Perot and a Clinton.  I’ve picked ’em all. Important thing is simply to get informed then pick someone with whom you line up at the time. It’s become as simple as a few clicks to research (candidate research), making a few pen-marks and swinging by a PO drop box with your early ballot. Just vote.
