Dear Diary:
My last 24hours: Confirm Friday a.m. ride~~ squishy on participants. A couple a bit flaky. I’m still in for sure. Feeling fat and out of shape. Plus IA games only a few weeks away and need to be able to ride something there to keep my streak alive.
Confirm Thursday afternoon ride; throw out invite and Kirk bites. Secretly hoping maybe no one would cuz I’m a bit taxed and don’t feel like pushing it. But Kirk’s ok.
Throw out invite to my roommate. He bites—we agree to leave the house together and meet Kirk after he’s finished with his dog at the vet. Poor Lola.
Ride home after work, change and get faster bike. Need to keep up. Fall asleep on the couch waiting for roommate who ultimately never shows up. Crap, I’m a little late; gotta fly to meeting place. Get there 1 minute late and have two messages from Kirk telling me he’s late. I put in some music and wait.
We head down the trail at a quick pace (for me) and immediately two wheelsuckers find us. I motion Kirk over, slow down, lean around, motion to the two kids and state: ‘go ahead’. They say, oh , no, we’re fine. I state: ‘we’re really not going any faster than this. ‘. They repeat: Really, we’re fine here.
I’m pissed and find out later Kirk is too. We dial it in a bit but my knee won’t cooperate and I can’t sustain a pace quick enough to drop the pricks. Cross gravel road and ‘pop—sssssssss’, *&@@#!!! Yup, good fortune strikes and one of them has a flat. We peel away w/out so much as a comment to them.
Land back at the Tap—have beers at the nearly empty friendly confines. Watch the sun set, darkness approaches and we head back down the trail and home.
Get home and find my roommate cheating on me: the next episode of Dexter in the player, 1/3 through. He apologies for missing the ride; I can’t get over that he’s cheating on a Dexter and make him back it up a bit and summarize. Turns out I had seen much of this episode when it first ran on TV. Trinity. Cement. That’s all I’m saying. Send a couple messages to Loftus after I’ve caught up on all from everyone. Turns out he’s in for Friday a.m. after a consult with Piper. We’ll hook up.
Groggy Friday and only one other shows at the racks for a pre-6:00 ride. Primeau and I head north after we check our phones for messages; nothing. Seat troubles for Dave. I feel badly, didn’t bring a tool. Make a few looks back and didn’t ever see Piper. Hit Loftus corner’ and drop a message. We’re a little ahead of schedule. Drat.
Turn to head to the dam, run into old guy bike commuter so we chase him down and borrow a tool from him. Seat fixed. Ride across freshly paved Dam:
Make coffee(thanks Ben for the coffee donation to the RMLR). Put on drone hat and park it for the rest of the day.
