Back in the Saddle

Jumping back into the zoo-keeper game last weekend was probably on the  fringe of risky; fortunately it was with #2 client and easy; good pup and highly coachable. Probably the most trouble was the self mental game of how I was going to wear her out; normally she’s one of my runners and I knew a few minutes at a time of fetch wouldn’t cover it.  Fortunately a neighbor with a pup-pal stepped in, stepped up and threw endlessly for both of them. Big help.
I had a semi-solid commitment beginning Tuesday p.m. and used the weekend as a trial run; #1 Client came with legit risks. Multiple animals big and small; energetic and skittish and multiple levels to navigate. Now approaching night number three and I’d give it a 7 so far. First night was full of nervous energy from everyone. The zoo hadn’t seen me in a few months and all seemed pretty excited to have me around. Fell asleep first night on the floor; exhausted and once things settled in a bit I relaxed to the point of passing out.
Routine continues as follows: field a bunch of calls and messages from good friends all checking in, checking up, offering food, drink, rides and company.  Check, check, check on all.  A perfect combination; settled in with #1 Client and most days and nights booked with friends.  Two snags to a perfect week have been the departure of Ames as well as a series of recurring headaches. The latter compounded by the difficulty navigating the medical care system to get someone to address it. Maybe another word on that later. A word on the headaches though. With a several-years history of  Cluster Headaches I consistently work to get on top of even a minor ache before it has the chance to get out of control. Unfortunately given the oxy-cocktail I’m currently on I need a doc to tell me what to do. Which is likely exacerbating the  situation and even further compounded by an inability to do anything at this point.
