AniMal Shelter, Drink and Care

Presumably the fog around my head will lift by nightfall; although a caution that it may influence my words. Rehab has begun! Albeit slowly. The first few steps out to the car then into the house are all counted; in my book anyway.

Clinic was a model of efficiency; in fact because I was a few minutes early to arrive I was processed early  then spent fewer than five minutes in the waiting lobby. Around the corner to strip; fortunately I planned ahead with my dress which will come into play later, post op and likely post a nap I feel rapidly approaching. All thumbs when it comes to dress I needed a lift from the nurse with the gown then was quickly seated in a pseudo-semi-private prep room.  About then I had a change in nurses as my initial was is in the process of a home purchase and was called by the realtor mid-prep for me.  Worked out well; my ultimate prep nurse was terrific; mixing well feigned sincerity and personal dialogue in with her commands, instructions and IV poke and set-up. I hoped for her post-op as well.

Brief periods of solo waiting (lost Ames to the registration area; on my own now) broken  with  multiple visitors:

  • anesthesiologist – any previous, any adverse reactions, legal disclaimers (think only one with a string of those) recently sick, check tongue and neck, maybe this stuff’ll mess up your teeth; we’ll try not, etc….. Out.
  • repeat nurse – did someone shave the knee–whoa~~ what happened, whole leg is shaved…wait; both legs are shaved?!?!?  Sign this stuff (said surgeon and anesth visited w/you). Well;they hadn’t yet but on their way so who’s going to quibble over a few minutes and order of visitors. Out.
  •  surgeon – confirm, which knee –left and let’s put some marker signatures on it to be sure. Any questions…pre-recovery-post.  Out
  • surgical nurse – repeat after me: who  are you, why are you hear, which knee, Out? Nope–this is the one; grab the bag and come follow me, we’re on our way.

Wait; one more men’s room stop–it felt similar to a pre-race jitters; lots of bathroom breaks. Fortunately lots of bathrooms.   Now time to get you knocked out; let’s go.

That’s it for now; extremely sleepy and hopefully a nap will get rid of the throb both the knee and hamstring area. Plus I need a news update.  We’ll maybe come back and do some post-publish clean-up and editing. Or not.
